MATT PAPA: YOUR KINGDOM COME – CD REVIEW
| SYNOPSIS | |
| JOEL: I find myself usually drawn to the worship leaders that most people have no clue who they are. I think it has a ton to do with the fact that the unkown guys are creating the best music and seem to be way less concerned if it makes it to the radio. Matt Papa in my book joins the ranks of Jason Morant, Charlie Hall, and Krisitan Stanfill. Guys that are writing brilliant worship and yet most don’t have a clue who they are. I first heard this CD a year ago, now it has been rereleased by Centricity records, and it blew me a away. This man is so talented. His lyrics are brilliant and challenging. His musicality is aweinspiring. and his heart for worship is more than evident. This is a CD you had better own. |

| CONNER: Well, this was ranked 5th in my Top 10 CDs of 2008. I think I said something like “Hands down the best Worship/Rock CD of the year that you don’t own!” There’s been quite a bit put out since then but I stand by my assessment. Maybe you’ve sung his version of “In Christ Alone” but that’s barely a morsel of what you get on You Are Good’s follow up, Your Kingdom Come. Matt Papa is truly a song writer and is up there with Charlie Hall and Derek Webb in his way of writing songs for the church that also challenge the church in sometimes uncomfortable ways. He also equips this CD with guitar driven and piano driven songs that provide a ton of coverage for musical variety. There’s a ton of ground covered here and he doesn’t skimp by putting 15 songs on here! | |
| MIKE: I’ve been listening to this record on and off for a couple of months. It is a good, solid worship album. Nothing Earth-shaking, but it is a good source of inspiration for the average worship team. There is (refreshingly) a lot of variety on this record, as well as some thoughtful, sometimes powerful, lyrics.Matt Papa is going to be someone to be reckoned with in the future as a worsip leader, and as an inspiration to worship leaders. | |
| ALASTAIR: I’ve had this album for a while now and I love it. Matt Papa has delivered a real mixed bag with “Your Kingdom Come”. There are songs suitable for congregational worship, some that will minister directly to you and even some you can rock out to. Matt’s style is so versatile that there seems to be a range of musical influences on the album. Maybe it’s the hair, but Matt is probably the closest we have to a modern day Keith Green in my opinion.”Your Kingdom Come” is crammed full with 18 tracks. I detect styles similar to Tree63, Relient K and even Delirious, but a lot of the songs carry Matt’s own unique style that makes this album a treat. I absolutely love “Woe To You” which reminds me of “Instead of a Show” by Jon Foreman. | |
| BOTTOM LINE | |
KLAMPERT: INSANE. The first song drags you in and you are taken on a wild ride of worship that is not predictable and obviously inspired by God. I love this CD and you will too. Rating: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

| BYRD: Incredible lyrics, great musicality, and a great mix of singable songs for the church and songs that you would love to play in church but might not ever get the gumption to I think part of Matt’s appeal is that he isn’t going to appeal to everyone but for those that will take the time to get into this CD you’re going to love it! VANCE: Fantastic album. Matt seems to carry some of the “no compromise” attitude that Keith Green did. Rating: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

The Joint gives Matt Papa: Your Kingdom Come Overall Rating:

I personally would love to hear a congregation sing “Woe to You”, and have a hidden camera behind the band pointed to the congregation . . . LOL!
