SYNOPSIS

KLAMPERT: Please make sure you read the other guys on this review because I am pretty sure I will be hated for this one. I have been a fan of the Passion stuff since the dawn of time..maybe around when laminin was created. I always loved that when I got a Passion CD I got two things. 1. a movement of God and 2. Innovation. On this CD we have the first, but I don’t think we have the second. I am not really a fan of the Tomlin stuff on here and maybe it will grow on my, but I am VERY HAPPY that his lyrical content this time is worth the $8 itunes purchase. Maybe the days of “WE’RE GONNA PARTY!” are over.
I wonder who chooses what will or won’t be on these CD’s. It feels very Tomlin heavy and I understand that, but the “little” guys are really doing some amazing work and deserve equal billing. The Charlie Hall track is AMAZING!, but only one song? Seriously?
Then there is the incomparable Nockels. This CD goes right where her solo album went wrong. It has power and..big word here OOMPH! Nockels needs to do a live CD for her next solo album.
Of course Redman and Fee are brilliant. We all know that. Kristian Stanfill folks!! Just like FEE he has been with the passion boys forever but nobody knows who he is. I hope the 1 track on here gets people to buy his stuff because he is great!

BYRD: If you’re visiting from another planet the chances are you’ve still probably heard of the Passion movement and artists like Chris Tomlin, David Crowder, Matt Redman, and Hillsong United are household names around worship circles. For those of us who are the least bit familiar with music then names like Charlie Hall, Steve Fee, Kristian Stanfill, and the Nockels are morsels often finer than the main course! I’m so stoked to report that I haven’t been as excited or satisfied by a Passion release since probably Sacred Revolution…maybe Passion 05 How Great is Our God? But where is Party? Where’s Sing, Sing, Sing? NO WHERE! Yeah just 12 punch in gut worship songs reaching for the King! It’s a bit Tomlin heavy for me leaving some of my favorites (Charlie Hall, Fee, and Kristian Stanfill) with only 1 each but I must say that they still deliver!

MAHONEY: I’m a big fan of live albums, especially live worship albums, so I was expecting to like this one.  Song selection is an issue for me. (I sound like Randy Jackson)  I would have preferred Matt Redman’s contribution to be “We Shall Not Be Shaken” rather than “You Alone Can Rescue” and I don’t really consider “How He Loves” as a Crowder song.  Still, the CD has a great vibe, even with the abundance of Tomlin.   I would have liked another helping of Fee or Charlie Hall instead of four Chris Tomlin tunes out of twelve cuts.

But… production is great, the performances are excellent, and there is a great worship vibe throughout.

VANCE: What a great gathering of artists on this CD!  Niiice!  I know some of the other guys think it’s a little Tomlin heavy, but I don’t mind that too much.  There are some songs on here you’ll have heard before – like Rise And Sing from Fee, How He Loves, and You Alone Can Rescue.  The majority of songs are new and that is good.

In saying that, this CD didn’t have that fresh feel to it for me.  The new songs had an air of familiarity.  This is not a bad thing of course as I think some of these songs will work very well congregationally because of that.

BOTTOM LINE
KLAMPERT: It’s Passion. It’s amazing and BIG. The UNITED cut is cool, but it’s wicked long and I would have rather had two new UNITED songs. Crowder track is pretty cool as well. So it is worth a buy, but I can’t say I love this whole CD Rating: ★★★½☆
BYRD: It’s just hard to look past the talent coming out of the Passion camp and Awakening seems to have been bathed in the Holy Spirit at Passion 2010 and aired out to dry for us worship in our cars, at home, and at church! And with only 3 previously released tracks this is a feast! Rating: ★★★★½
MAHONEY: A good worship album, especially if you like Chris Tomlin.   Rating: ★★★½☆
VANCE: A good few of my favourite artists are on here! Rating: ★★★★☆

Hey, so seriously, love these reviews. Especially on a Passion album… they’ve either been hit or miss in my book. I may skip this one and wait for one with a bit more innovation.

So I’ve commented before but haven’t heard back… Is there anyway you’d be interested in sharing some of your reviews in a resource library for youth pastors? Take a look at it here:

I’d really love to share some of your stuff with the community… let me know, thanks!!
